Road Closures

On Pit Run day, the race marshals have legal authority to close the High Street, Carlton Road and Odell Road for the afternoon of the event. The marshals also have authority to prevent vehicles from The Green, Roman Paddock, Dove Lane and Church Walk from entering the High Street when it is closed. The same is the case for Hall Close when the Carlton Road is closed.

We endeavour to keep road closures to a minimum. We close them just a few minutes before each of the junior races and re-open them in-between, just as soon as it is safe to do so. Before the main race, we again close the roads a few minutes before the runners start and then re-open them once all of the runners are in the Harrold-Odell Country Park. We then intermittently open and close the road near Hall Close as runners leave the country park. In our experiences, the longest delay is around 10 minutes.

It is not our intention to cause inconvenience. Our focus is the safety of the Pit Run participants and spectators.

If you require access to or from the High Street on Pit Run afternoon, we would respectfully make the following suggestions:

Before the event, park your vehicle somewhere in the village that won’t be affected by the road closures, e.g. along the High Street towards Lavendon, on Odell Road near the Fire Station, or in Carlton.

Be prepared to accept short delays.

Plan your journeys to avoid the race times. The roads will close around 1:20pm for the junior races; they’ll be fully open from around 2:10pm until 2:50pm; then intermittently between 3pm and 4pm.

Thank you for your help and assistance.
